Fertilisers contain major and secondary nutrients, and trace elements, whose main function is to provide plants and crops with the necessary food for their optimum development.

Regulation of these types of products in France is as follows:

if they fulfill EC or French (NF) standards, they can be marketed without any procedure,

otherwise, they have to follow a registration procedure requiring the submission of data demonstrating that the fertilisers are safe and efficient.
