Services - Regulatory survey / Training

Context:

To place any substance or formulated product on the market, strict conformity with the rules on classification, packaging and labelling must be adhered to. The directives that govern classification, labelling and packaging are constantly changing: substances are periodically re-evaluated (Adaptations to Technical Progress (ATP) of Directive 67/548/EEC), and the classification criteria are regularly refined (dangers for the aquatic environment defined in Directive 1999/45/EC, and modified early 2007 for products containing very toxic substances N, R50 or R50/53).

Globally Harmonized System (GHS), implemented in Europe by Regulation No.1272/2008, and entered into force on January 20th, 2009 will again change the current situation. Its application will be mandatory for substances from December 1st, 2010, and for formulated products from June 1st, 2015.

Product labels and Safety Data Sheets are both instrumental documents for the communication of information for the safe and efficacious use of products and both are regulated. Since June 1st, 2007, the Safety Data Sheet has to be drafted according to the format defined in REACh Regulation, of which it will be a key element, and especially during the transitory period of the GHS implementation. In addition, the SDS must be regularly updated.

At your request, A.S.C. can:

  • make an update of the toxicological and ecotoxicological data of your substance or of each substance contained in your formulated product,
  • evaluate the physical-chemical risks and the risks for Human health and the Environment,
  • determine the classification of a formulated product according to the "conventional" method (calculation),
  • define the labelling elements: size, symbol(s) of danger, risk phrase(s), safety phrases(s) and other compulsory statements, according to the "old" system, to GHS or to both.
  • prepare the whole SDS or specific sections,
  • revise the SDS or adapt it to the most recent regulations.
